April 09 Esterlina Vineyards and Winery Wine Club Shipment

Greetings

Spring has purportedly sprung, but I think we may have skipped spring altogether. Last week in Healdsburg we were immersed in summer-type weather. Never you fear, record highs didn’t stop us from getting your wine packed up and shipped out from our climate-controlled warehouse (or ready for pick-up). Some call this a “candy shipment”. Like the Candy Man, we are trying to “Make the world taste good”. How? With tantalizing fruit forward wines like the Late Harvest Riesling (our first ever) and our member favorite, Port. Speaking of favorites….we are releasing our 2007 Estate Anderson Valley Pinot. If you enjoyed the 2006 (90 pts Wine Enthusiast), you will adore our newest release. Everyone has the chance to taste the newest vintage of our Estate Pinot. Depending on which club you are in you will have received either the Late Harvest Riesling or the Port.

May 15-17 is the Anderson Valley Pinot Festival (for tickets to the festival visit www.avwines.com) and as a reminder, Esterlina Vineyards will be participating in a winemaker dinner at Little River Inn. The cost is $85.00 per person. We will also be holding an open house on Sunday, May 17th at Esterlina Vineyards in Philo (RSVP early). If you would like more information about our winemaker dinner please go to www.littleriverinn.com. Little River Inn will be offering special rates to our wine club members, if you wish to stay at the fabulous Little River Inn with golf and a spa.

This is your last shipment until September so with that in mind…we are offering case specials that are valid for all Esterlina and Everett Ridge wines. You will receive 25% off a single case with free shipping and 35% off two or more cases and free shipping. Mix and match your favorite wines to last you thru the summer months.

We are including an event card in your shipment--but I need to make two revisions to the card. First, the Diablita Friday in August is actually the 21st. Second, our final joint wine club party in Healdsburg is on October 11th. The party will go from 12pm to 4pm with a limit of 250 people.

Have a great summer, and we hope to see you soon at one of our wineries soon.

Best,

April 2009 Wine Club Tasting Notes

Esterlina Vineyards and Winery
April 2009
Wine Club Tasting Notes

The Enophiles (Reds Only) members will receive the first two wines on the list. The Enophiles (Combo) members will receive the last two wines.

2005 Port, Sonoma County

Esterlina’s ruby-styled port has always been combination of grapes. The 2005 vintage continues that tradition, with some Dry Creek zinfandel, syrah, and a bit of the traditional port grape, Touriga Nacional. As always, it is a big, indulgent port that will pair well with desserts, such as a warm chocolate cake, or by itself. Enjoy.

2007 Pinot Noir, Anderson Valley, Esterlina Estate Vineyard

The 2007 Esterlina Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir is very much like our 2006 Anderson Valley Reserve Pinot Noir—a wine we believe to be among the best we have ever produced. Again, from this vineyard, one is apt to get those ripe black cherry, plum, earthy mushroom and spicy cinnamon flavors, and this wine shows those traits. For as ripe as it is, however, it has more than enough acidity. It ends with the customary very long finish. NOTE: Like any red wine that we ship to you, please let it settle for a week or two after you receive it.

2008 Late Harvest Riesling, Cole Ranch

In its late harvest form, our Riesling has the ever-present peach, lemon, floral and vanilla flavors. Notwithstanding the extra residual sugar, you really do notice the wine’s rich complexity, with a bit of melon on the nose, and rich candied fruit in the finish. If we may make one recommendation for serving: try not to over-chill this wine. The flavors are so vivid when it is served just slightly cooled or at room temperature. For dessert, try it with a vanilla-bean crème brulee. With an appetizer, pair it with spring rolls and sweet-spicy dipping sauce.
